The zoo gives Maggie a birthday party every year in January. This turns into a big event full of fun. Maggie is given edible presents to open and there are games and cake for kids in the Visitor Center.
Maggie turned 14 this January.
At Living Desert, all the animals kept are either injured or imprinted by people and cannot be released because they were never raised correctly by their parents.
Maggie is a black bear at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park. Maggie was one month old when she was orphaned and raised by a rehabilitator in Missouri until she found a home at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park.
As a behavioral enrichment activity, General Curator Holly Payne introduced Maggie to painting with non-toxic paints. Maggie uses her paws to create her paintings which have become quite popular. You can purchase one of Maggies' paintings from the visitor center in the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park.
